Democracy in the Rough

I produced the online companion site to Democracy in the Rough, a story about the 2006 national elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The site features two briefings, one from the book In the Footsteps of Mr. Kurtz and a second FT oped on the challenges facing the DRC after the elections. An interactive map surveys the latest election results and offers details about the historic, ethnic and mineral resources of each province. Country background information is included in a photo essay which chronicles the turbulent past of this resource-rich African nation, from its colonial misrule to Mobutu Sese Seko’s reign to the current regime of Joseph Kabila.
